Shibata Yuka was born November 3, 1979 in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan.
She graduated from Multi-Media Art Gakuen and ed Telecom Film afterwards, where she stayed for one and a half year as part of the video editing studio, before ing Gainax in 2001. At Gainax she made her debut as key animator on Mahoromatic, where she was put alone in charge of the ending by producers Satou Hiroki and Yamaga Hiroyuki. The year 2002 saw her debuting as storyboarder and animation director on the Sister Princess remake, RePure, where she made the B parts of episodes 6, 9 and 10, which made her famous amongst animation fans.
This was one of the reasons why Daichi Akitarou chose her into the production team of the Makasete Iruka OVA, where she was responsible for the character designs and animation direction. Makasete Iruka received an Excellence Award for animation at the 2004 Japan Media Arts Festival.
In 2011 Shibata left Gainax for Trigger.
